The selected day uses 12:00 IST; today uses the current instant. The illuminated fraction describes the Moon as a whole. A city selection is retained for your other daily tools.
The next eight phase transitions
| Phase | Date in India | Approximate IST |

Transitions are rounded to the nearest hour. Calendar entries keep that same rounded instant and identify it as approximate.
Phase, tithi and visibility
A phase label groups the Moon’s cycle into familiar stages. A tithi divides the Sun–Moon angular separation into 12-degree steps; it can change during a civil day. A crescent’s local visibility also depends on the horizon and observing conditions.
For example, a civil date containing a full-Moon transition can contain portions of two tithis. Use the city-specific Hindu Calendar for sunrise tithis, or the Islamic Calendar for its stated calendar convention.
Phase calculation
The tool finds crossings of the SunCalc phase fraction at 0, ¼, ½ and ¾. The displayed and exported transitions are rounded to the nearest IST hour. They are separate from the Astronomy Engine tithi calculation used in the Hindu Calendar.
